How to read a two-column PDF on your phone

A page designed for paper rarely fits a phone. Reflow lets the words wrap to your screen, so changing the text size does not mean scrolling from side to side.

Why zooming gets tiring

A normal PDF viewer preserves the page geometry. Zoom in to make a line readable and the edge of the page often disappears. Two columns make this more awkward: you have to follow the first column down, move back up, and find the start of the next.

Use Restore for flowing text

Import your PDF into Ponte and choose Restore. It processes the document on your device, using existing text where possible and text recognition for scans. Restore does not require an account, internet access or credits.

Check the reading order

Read the first few paragraphs and compare them with the source page. Columns, sidebars, headers and footnotes can make extraction difficult. If a sentence seems to jump between topics, inspect the original before relying on the restored version.

Make the reader fit you

Open the reader’s appearance controls and adjust the type size and spacing. Try a size that lets you read without leaning closer. Use highlights and notes to mark a passage you want to revisit, or search for a phrase you remember.

Keep figures in context

Reflow is most helpful for continuous prose. Tables, mathematical notation, diagrams and precise page layout can require the original PDF. Switch back to the source when a figure, reference or formatting detail matters. Restore changes the reading presentation; it is not a guarantee of perfect reconstruction of every page.

Try a short, free example

Download our two-column sample, import it and compare the PDF with the restored text. The sample is public-domain fiction, so you can test the workflow without uploading a personal document. Cloud translation is optional and separately paid.
